French Open: Laura Siegemund surprisingly in the quarter-finals
Laura Siegemund is surprisingly in the quarter-finals of the French Open. The 32-year-old from Metzingen defeated the Spaniard Paula Badosa Gilbert 7: 5, 6: 2 on Monday and thus reached the round of eight in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

The next opponent is the number seven seeded Czech Petra Kvitova.
The US Open winner in doubles, on 66 in the WTA ranking, got off to a strong start against Badosa Gilbert. She took the world rankings-87. the serve to 2: 1, but had to accept the rebreak directly. Then the Spaniard turns up, but Siegemund came back in the first set and impressed in the decisive phase with strong nerves.
Siegemund kept sprinkling stops to force the Spaniard out of her comfort zone. In the second set, too, she stayed on the trigger against her opponent, who had to be treated on the back and couldn't find a recipe for the cranked Siegemund.
While both players were roughly on par in terms of forced and forced errors, Siegemund was clearly ahead of the winners - with 25 to 12.
Amusing: Siegemund had a bowl of food brought to her in the meantime; she had stomach problems before the match, she explained at the end.
