The 18-year-old was actually eliminated in the final qualifying round in Paris, but was lucky: Ana Konjuh had to pull out of the main field, Schunk is allowed to take her place.

And can play completely freely here: Because Schunk meets ex-number 1 and French Open winner from 2018, Simona Halep.

Halep was injured for a long time last year, but had recently shown strong form under new coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
