Casper Ruud pulled his head out of the noose again in Kitzbühel

That was close for number one at the Generali Open 2021: Casper Ruud had to fend off a match point in the second set of his quarter-final match against Mikael Ymer. But he was able to pull his head out of the loop again and defeat the Swedes with 3: 6, 7: 6 (5) and 6: 3. For Ruud the next marathon, after he had contested (and won) the final in Gstaad on Sunday and had to go over three sets against Mario Vilella Martinez on Wednesday evening.

His semi-final opponent on Friday in Kitzbühel had to toil less, at least on Thursday: Arthur Rinderknech, who slipped into the tableau as an alternate after a few rejections, defeated Filip Krajinovic 6: 4 and 6: 1. Before that, Rinderknech had won his round of 16 against the Dane Holger Runde after defending against a match ball.

The second game of the semifinals is played by Daniel Altmeier and Pedro Martinez. Altmeier almost gave up a 6: 1, 4: 1 lead against Gianluca Mager, but then won in three sets. Martinez had no problems with Jozef Kovalik from Slovakia.
