Defending champion Casper Ruud (8) and Matteo Berrettini (10): Dominic Thiem will have the best company at the Generali Open with two current top 10 players.

Berrettini, who will make his tour comeback in Stuttgart in June after the injury break, was already in the quarterfinals in Kitzbühel in 2018 and accepted Thiem's invitation to his "THIEMs7" tournament in 2020, where he advanced to the semifinals. At the Generali Open 2022, the two will meet again in the Gamsstadt: "We are very happy that he will serve with us. He's not only a superstar and an advertising icon in his home country, but also a real crowd pleaser here," says tournament director Alexander Antonitsch: "We always have a lot of fans from Italy there - the Tifosi will certainly be happy about his return to Kitzbühel .”

Ruud on a mission to defend his title

It's no secret that Rome semi-finalist Casper Ruud also feels very comfortable in Kitzbühel - nor that the 23-year-old Norwegian in top form wants to defend his title from 2021. The organizers are particularly pleased that he never lost sight of this title defense despite his march through last year: "Casper has always assured us that he is looking forward to coming back to Kitzbühel", tournament director Antontisch knows and smiles: " Kitzbühel and Norway - that's not just a special connection in skiing."

Top starting field at the Generali Open Kitzbühel 2022

In general, the organizers of the ATP 250 clay court classic see it as an honor that the two top 10 stars absolutely want to play in Kitzbühel: "It's a great acknowledgment for us to hear how much both stars want to come to Kitzbühel. Both will come with their families and are already looking forward to their time in Kitzbühel,” confirm tournament organizers Herbert Günther and Markus Bodner.
