German Ladies Series presented by Porsche: Barthel, Siegemund celebrate favorite wins, Friedsam benefits from the task

The first group phase at the German Ladies Series presented by Porsche came to an end this Thursday. While Mona Barthel and Laura Siegemund secured the group wins, Anna-Lena Friedsam had to be content with second place despite a win at the end.

Tamara Korpatsch did not burn anything in Group 1, who also won her third group game in two sets and thus secured first place. Natasja Schunk landed behind her, who finally defeated Tea Lukic in three sets.

Middendorf surprised

In group 2, however, there was a surprising winner. Julia Middendorf had already caused a sensation with her victory over Anna-Lena Friedsam, also won her last group game against Joelle Steur on Thursday and finished first. On her third appearance, Friedsam benefited from an early assignment by Vivian Heisen.

As befits the class, Laura Siegemund completed her group phase. The world rankings-65. won her third group game confidently and landed in front of Romy Kölzer in group 3.

Barthel confident

In preliminary round group 4 Mona Barthel was successful, the Bad Segeberger beat Jule Niemeier in a direct duel in two sets and displaced Niemeier to second place.

The fifth group won the group victory, the 22-year-old celebrated the third victory in the third game, taking first place ahead of Mina Hodzic, who defeated Angelina Wirges.

Anna Zaja, who played only two games against Lisa Matviyenko, did not show any weaknesses in preliminary round group 6. Eva Lys came second with a win over Sarah Müller.
