If the desire for competition tennis is great, then a significantly increased humidity does not bother the athletes hungry for matches. And so, with a little delay, Kevin Krawietz and Daniel Masur opened the game in Group 3 of the DTB German Pro Series on the center court of the TC Großhesselohe in the south of Munich, a few days after the Austrian counterpart had started.

There are a total of 32 men who are applying for victory from today, and will also play in Troisdorf, Überlingen (each from Thursday) and Neuss. At the latter locations with up to 100 spectators, a contingent that was not fully used at the start between Mats Rosenkranz (who had recently stepped in for Mats Moraing) and Peter Heller in Neuss.

Gojowczyk beats Welte

No fans are allowed in Großhesselohe, the few accredited journalists wear face masks and keep their distance, the same applies to the players and their supervisors, including the organizers. Christopher Kas combines the latter two attributes like no other on the course, the former Davis Cup player was involved in the preparation of the course, is head of the Bundesliga team of TC Großhesselohe - and primarily as a coach of Peter Gojowczyk on site .

Michael Kohlmann, the German Davis Cup captain, came directly from the TennisBase in Oberhaching to start the DTB series. Kohlmann's primary interest is for young players like Milan Welte and above all Max Rehberg. Welte got to grips with veteran Gojowczyk on Tuesday, Rehberg with Yannick Hanfmann. Kohlmann knows the field of participants like no other, he thinks the group around Gojowczyk, Masur, Krawietz and Welte is one of the strongest. Good for Masur, who also played for Germany in the Davis Cup, that he was able to win the close opening against French Open double champ Krawietz with 7-5, 7-5. And as if Youngster Welte wanted to underline the point of the German team boss, he surprisingly defeated Gojowczyk in second place with 6: 4 and 6: 4.

No problems for struff

Philipp Kohlschreiber, who has significantly increased the training intensity at the TennisBase in Oberhaching these days (including with Jan-Lennard Struff) is missing from the DTB German Pro Series. The veteran only wants to get 100 percent competitive again when it is clear when the ATP tournaments will continue. A decision could be announced tomorrow Wednesday. ATP invited coaches to a zoom call, Michael Kohlmann was also invited. And excited.

Tournament favorite Jan-Lennard Struff generated little tension. In Neuss. In front of spectators. The tournament favorite won 6: 2 and 6: 4.
