Great honor: Dominic Thiem becomes an honorary citizen of Lichtenwörth

Dominic Thiem is currently not only running smoothly on the tennis court. The fifth in the world rankings will be given honorary citizenship of his home community in the coming week.

Dominic Thiem is currently having a good laugh: last week the Austrian triumphed at the top-class ATP 500 tournament in Beijing and showed "one of the best performances" of his career in the final against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 26-year-old will be the next week Honorary citizenship of his home community Lichtenwörth.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 17th. On this day, the community honors those people who have worked particularly hard for the location in recent years - including Austria's flagship in tennis.

First Shanghai, then award

"We are proud of our exceptional athlete and I expect Dominic Thiem to soon be number one in the world rankings," said SPÖ Mayor Harald Richter. The application was unanimously accepted by the local council.

But before Thiem receives this award, there are still big tasks waiting for him at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai. The first challenge awaits the 15-time title holder on Wednesday (second match after 12:30 CET): Thiem will meet the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round.
