Clijsters competes in her third tournament of the current season in Indian Wells, it is her first appearance in California since 2011. In 2003 and 2005 she was able to secure the title in the desert.

In their comeback match in Dubai, Clijsters showed a more than appealing performance against Garbine Muguruza. "I may have lost the match, but it was a win for me. To be back on the pitch, I missed that feeling," said Clijsters after her early retirement. At the tournament in Monterrey, she continues her return to professional tennis in the coming week.

Novak Djokovic & Rafael Nadal play doubles in Indian Wells

Novak Djokovic meanwhile, like Rafael Nadal, decided to compete in the Indian Wells doubles. Djokovic plays with his compatriot Viktor Troicki, with whom he was already successful in the ATP Cup for Team Serbia. Last year Djokovic reached the semi-finals in doubles in Indian Wells alongside Fabio Fognini.

Nadal has teamed up with Marc Lopez. The Spaniards had already won the double titles in Indian Wells in 2010 and 2012 and won gold in Rio at the 2016 Olympic Games.

A few days ago, it was announced that Dominic Thiem will also play in the doubles. The Australian Open finalist plays with Grigor Dimitrov. The other wild cards will be awarded in the coming weeks.
