Alina Michalitsch, equipped with a wildcard, was able to prove her skills after initial nervousness and took a set from the big favorite Tereza Smitkova. In the decisive round, however, the ex-Wimbledon round of 16 had the momentum on her side with the big points and was ultimately able to prevail 6:3, 2:6, 6:2. There was nothing to gain for the second red-white-red representative against another Czech: Mavie Österreicher had to admit defeat to third-seeded Anna Siskova 1:6, 3:6.

But there was a surprise: Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov failed. The top seeded Spaniard had to bow 2: 6, 2: 6 to the incredibly focused and almost completely emotionless Russian Ekaterina Reyngold in her opening match. In the doubles competition, the two Carinthians Nina Plihal and Laura Pasterk narrowly failed. The wildcard duo lost 7-5, 6-4 to the Japanese-German pairing Nagi Hanatani and Sina Herrmann on Tuesday afternoon. Melanie Klaffner and Sinja Kraus lost 3:6, 2:6 against the top seeded En Shuo Liang (Taiwan) and Valeriya Strakhova (Ukraine). And Kerstin Peckl lost with the American Charlotte Chavatipon against the fourth-placed Colombians Maria Fernanda Herazo Gonzalez and Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia 6:7 (2), 4:6.

Today, Wednesday, we continue with three highlights, including an international one: The two-time Grand Slam winner Laura Siegemund from Germany will not play her first round match on Center Court before 1:30 p.m. against the Greek qualifier Martha Matoula. Immediately before that, Klaffner plays as in doubles against Strakhova. After Siegemund's match, the duel between the Austrians follows: Plihal and Kraus meet in front of a (hopefully) full house.
