It wasn't quite enough for Barbara Haas: The Upper Austrian had to admit defeat in three sets 5:7, 6:1 and 2:6 in the quarterfinals of the ITF-W60 event in Grado (Italy) by the former fifth in the world rankings Sara Errani. The 35-year-old from Bologna, seeded fifth at the clay court event in northern Italy, is currently only 172nd in the WTA ranking. The local hero will now face the top seeded Swiss Ylena In-Albon in the semifinals.
With the points earned, Haas will improve by almost 20 places in the women's world rankings to around 260th place. In the coming week, the 26-year-old will start at the ITF W25 tournament in Annenheim. The clay court tournament at Ossiacher See is part of the Carinthian Ladies Lakes Trophy series, which will be continued a week later with a W60 event in Pörtschach.
