Will Carlos Alcaraz serve at the Laver Cup in September?

In 2022, the Laver Cup should have a real star ensemble, especially from a European perspective. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have already confirmed their start in the competition between Europe and the rest of the world, now it seems quite likely that Carlos Alcaraz, the man of the hour in men's tennis, could start at the show event.

Talks with the 19-year-old are already being held intensively, as the British newspaper i reported. "Captain (Björn) Borg would love to have him on his team and so would we," organizer Tony Godsick told i. "I know there have been some discussions. I heard from the team that he would like to get to know more. I'm optimistic that he will play."

Team Europe with Nadal, Federer and Alcaraz?

Getting Carlos Alcaraz as a player would also be essential for the future of the event, as Godsick emphasized: "He would be an incredible asset, not just this year but also in the future. That's why we're very happy that he's on Team Europe is." Alcaraz has already won two ATP Masters 1000 events this year, making it one of the top favorites at the French Open.

As i reported, the Laver Cup - which will take place from September 23rd to 25th - could be the first tournament for Roger Federer since his injury break. With Carlos Alcaraz and Federer, there could well be a clash of generations. The rationale behind the Laver Cup, as Godsick explained, "That's actually one of the reasons we started it. Tennis lacked an opportunity for different generations to meet once a year."

He doesn't just mean John McEnroe and Björn Borg, who support Team Europe and Team World as coaches, he also means the character Carlos Alcaraz: "Where or when will this guy, who is a future mega-superstar on the ATP tour, be , who will win several Slams assuming he doesn't get injured, at this stage where will he get a chance to interact and go head-to-head with Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal?"
