Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev - points guarantee for Team Europe?

Alexander Zverev posed casually in a chic black suit for the photographers among the world's best tennis professionals, then the Olympic champion got in the mood for defending his title at the Laver Cup at the team dinner with his colleagues. At the show competition between Team Europe and the rest of the world in Boston, which begins on Friday, Zverev wants to forget the bitter semi-final defeat at the US Open and gain momentum for the season's final spurt.

"We're all here to win," said the 24-year-old from Hamburg, who had been able to lift the trophy in the previous three editions of the team competition based on the Ryder Cup for golfers - and mostly played a key role in them . "I have so many unbelievable memories of the event," said Zverev, "especially the decisive match in Geneva 2019".

Federer, Nadal, Djokovic are missing

As in 2018 in Chicago, Zverev was the match winner for Team Europe at 13:11 in Switzerland two years ago and was celebrated exuberantly by the superstars Roger Federer and Rafael Nada l. Since the two injured Grand Slam record champions as well as industry leader Novak Djokovic are missing this year, Zverev leads the Europeans in Boston together with the newly crowned US Open winner Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas .

The game is played from Friday to Sunday (from 7:00 p.m. CEST / Eurosport), three singles and one doubles, each day more points are awarded for victories. And as in the first three comparisons of the invitation tournament, which fell victim to the corona pandemic last year, this time too the favorite role is clearly with Team Europe under Captain Björn Borg.

All six European players are classified in the top 10 of the world rankings. The world selection, supervised by John McEnroe, is led by Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov (ATP-11th and -12th).
