Grand Slam victories, gold medals at the Olympic Games, triumphs in the Davis Cup - Andy Murray's track record is impressive in every respect. One of the few gaps is now to be closed at the end of September in London's O2 Arena. Then Murray will be part of the European Laver Cup team for the first time. As the third confirmed starter after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

"I'm extremely happy that Andy is in our team," said captain Björn Borg in a broadcast. "He is a dedicated, unyielding and inspiring competitor who has re-established himself at the forefront of our sport. He will be an incredible asset for the home team, in singles and doubles."

Question mark in the European team

Murray is also supposed to help Borg keep a clean slate. Since the first edition in Prague in 2017, the European selection has always won. Next year the Laver Cup will be in Vancouver, and in 2024 it will be in Germany for the first time, namely in Berlin.

The signs of another triumph for Borg's team this year are not that good: behind Federer and Nadal there are question marks about their condition, the Swiss has not played a match since Wimbledon 2021. In addition, with Alexander Zverev, there is a currently injured player who has been in all editions of the Laver Cup so far. Whether the German number one will be able to help defend the title again depends on Zverev's rapid rehabilitation.
