The question of whether Roger Federer will one day also go to the Bütt as the captain of Team Europe at the Laver Cup can be answered with a clear “yes” without fear. In Boston, the maestro was only passive at the start for the first time, but it was definitely enough for a standing ovation in the Garden. Despite the oppressive superiority of the Europeans, the continental comparison survived the first test: the audience filled the stands despite the absence of Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Since the competition was held in Prague for the first time in 2017, John McEnroe and Björn Borg have been the team captains. McEnroe also has quite a lot to do in his many roles as an expert, Borg takes things a lot easier. Depending on how long the Laver Cup will last, at some point the two legends will no longer sit on the supervisor's benches. Federer as a natural successor to Borg is obvious - but in Team World?

Roddick wants to help Brooksby

Andy Roddick could fit in there very well. He ended his active career long before Federer, although the two are basically the same age (Roddick is even a whole year younger than the Swiss). You know each other, you value each other, even if Federer only left the field as a loser three times in the 24 matches against Roddick.

Even after his time as a player on the ATP tour, Roddick has remained one of the funniest observers of the tennis scene and is also the expert for the tennis channel. And Andy Roddick also wants to lend a hand: During the match of his young compatriot Jenson Brooksby against Novak Djokovic at the US Open, Roddick tweeted that Brooksby should please stop by him. He would take its serve to a new level within four days.

Brooksby could be a candidate for the Laver Cup in the coming years, Roddick should be one soon. The first visit was in Boston that weekend. And maybe the old rivals Federer and Roddick weren't just talking about raising children.
