The first games at the Laver Cup 2019 are certain: The two captains John McEnroe and Björn Borg have committed themselves to Denis Shapovalov and Dominic Thiem, who will play the first game in the day session on Friday (from 1 p.m. live on Eurosport). After that, the US team chief in particular allowed himself a surprise - and also set up Jack Sock, which most observers had expected only in doubles, in singles. Sock, who is currently only ranked outside the Top 200 after a long injury break, is playing against Fabio Fognini in the second match of the opening day. It will be the first ever appearance at the Laver Cup for the Italian.

From 7 p.m. Björn Borg will send Stefanos Tsitsipas into the race, Taylor Fritz is waiting in the debut duel. The Swiss fans will also get to see their local hero on day one: Roger Federer starts in double in the last game on Friday alongside Alexander Zverev. Against two players who have already played well in singles: Jack Sock and Denis Shapovalov.

The game is played in the best-of-three format, with the third set being played out as part of a champions tie-break. For a win on Friday, the respective team gets one point, two on Saturday and three on the final day. Thiem and Shapovalov last played against each other in Montreál. At that time, the Austrian was able to assert himself in three sentences.
