At first he was not even planned in Boston, the good Roger Federer. After his arrival, however, they apparently found an accreditation and a place in the audience area for him. Why not - after all, Federer is one of the co-founders of the Laver Cup .

It wasn't planned that far in advance for it to appear after all, "we kept it small for me to come. So that the team might be a little happier that I actually did the trip." At first he was also unsure whether he could come on crutches at all, "but the reception was great, everyone was happy," Federer told Jim Courier. He saw wonderful tennis and was very happy that he came after all. /

Federer and the knee: "I'll take my time"

The knee? "It was a tough process to make this decision," explained Federer with regard to the new operation. "I already had a number of knee operations last year." But the way things went around Wimbledon, "I was really unhappy with that. I wasn't nearly where I wanted to be to be at my top level even after trying my best." Now he goes about everything "step by step": "First run properly, then run properly, then sidesteps and exercises for agility, then it may go back to the tennis court." But all of that would cost him a few months. "Then at some point in the next year we'll see how things are."

Federer made it clear: "I'll take the time. I don't want to rush right now. It's about my life too: I want to be sure that I can do anything I want later." He is therefore fine, "the worst is behind me".

It is the first time in four editions that neither Federer, Nadal or Djokovic are competing - nevertheless, according to Federer, the Laver Cup is going very well. Boston is great, the teams are of high quality. "It was about everyone coming together, having a good time together, learning from each other. And hopefully it inspires and motivates them for the rest of the year and the coming season."

Would he even take on the role of captain after his career? Possible. "Sounds exciting, including the position as Vice-Captain," said Federer. "We'll see what comes after John and Björn."
