Naomi Osaka is expected to be absent from Wimbledon

Unsurprisingly, Naomi Osaka will be absent from Wimbledon in 2021. after her withdrawal from the French Open, the Japanese had already canceled the WTA Tour 500 tournament in Berlin. Lawn is not her preferred course anyway, the focus should now apparently be on the Olympic Games in Tokyo. There they play on hard courts, the kind of surface on which Osaka won all of its four major titles: the US OPs in 2018 and 2020 and the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021.

Osaka still needs some time to be ready for competitive matches again, according to the message of their management. In Tokyo, the current world number two will go into the race as one of the favorites. Especially since it is still open who will take part in the Olympic tournament. Rafael Nadal announced his retirement on Thursday. Of course, the Spaniard has nothing more to prove at the Olympic level: in 2008 in Beijing, Nadal won gold in singles, and in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, alongside Marc Lopez, gold in doubles.
