Jannik Sinner is struggling with injury concerns

In his young career, Jannik Sinner probably had much more pleasant days than February 24, 2021. Although the Italian won the first set against Aljaz Bedene in Montpellier, France, the youngster had to give up rounds two and three and suffered a first round defeat.

Much more painful than the 6: 3, 2: 6 and 6: 7 (3) defeat, however, are the back problems that Sinner had to struggle with in the tie-break of the last set. Again and again the world number 34 attacked. on the lower part of the back, when changing sides he even used a medical timeout. "I've never had this pain before," Sinner informed the physiotherapist before the treatment began.

Sinner with a full program

The South Tyrolean was able to end the game, but did not win a point in the short decision on his own serve. Due to the defeat, Sinner also had a strong streak of success: the 19-year-old had completed his two previous ATP 250 events in Melbourne and Sofia with a tournament victory.

If the back problems are not too serious, Sinner will take part in the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam next week. After that, appearances in Marseille and Dubai are planned before the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the year is on the program in Miami.
