Superstar Novak Djokovic wants to organize his own tournament in several Balkan countries during the break in international professional tennis. As the management of the 17-time Grand Slam winner announced, the "Adria Tour" will take place from June 13 to July 5 in his Serbian homeland, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia.

In addition to Djokovic, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Friday, Austrian Dominic Thiem and Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgaria) are among the participants. The proceeds of the tournament are to be donated to various charities. Djokovic and his family are currently in Marbella, Spain, and started tennis training a few days ago.

Thiem will start at the Generali Austrian Pro Series on Monday.

It is not yet clear whether viewers will be admitted. The Balkan countries appear to have weathered the corona pandemic relatively well so far. Of the officially 20,000 infected people from the region, 650 died as a result of their illness.

The player associations ATP and WTA decided last week to extend the break in tennis. Tour tournaments will not take place until July 31st. The prospects are also rather difficult because of the international travel restrictions.
