While in the lower half of the Olympic tableau with Karen Khachanov and Pablo Carreno Busta two players who were not necessarily to be expected, the favorites prevailed with Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. Djokovic gave Kei Nishikori just as few chances in the 6: 2 and 6: 0 as Alexander Zverev Jeremy Chardy in the 6: 4 and 6: 1 after only 66 minutes of playing time.

This is the eighth clash between Zverev and Djokovic, the world number one from Serbia has a nose in front with 6-2 victories. The last encounter was earlier this year in Melbourne at the Australian Open. There Djokovic was able to assert himself in four tight sentences on his way to the 18th major title in the quarterfinals.
