Husband Gael Monfils will also have been very pleased: Elina Svitolina, for whom things have not gone too well on the WTA tour in the last few months, beat Kazakh Elena Rybakina in the game for third place at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with 1: 6, 7: 6 (5) and 6: 4 through. As in the semifinals against Belinda Bencic, Rybakina left many chances, for example in the decisive set gave an early break out of hand. In the final, Bencic will face Marketa Vondrousova, who defeated local favorite Naomi Osaka in the course of the tournament.

There was a surprise in the women's doubles: Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani won bronze for Brazil with a 4: 6, 6: 4 and 11: 9 against the two ROC athletes Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina. Vesnina will be able to get over it: She has the chance to get gold in the mixed final alongside Aslan Karatsev. Opponents will be Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublev.
