Novak Djokovic seems inviolable in Tokyo

Perhaps Novak Djokovic wanted to spare himself for his appearance in mixed doubles on Wednesday afternoon: The industry leader was in a hurry against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at 6: 3 and 6: 1. Djokovic is also the clear favorite in the next game - even if Kei Nishikori enjoys home advantage in Tokyo. The Japanese also won his round of 16 against Ilya Ivashka in straight sets. In round one, Nishikori had surprisingly defeated Andrey Rublev.

The second semi-final in the upper half will be contested by Alexander Zverev and Jeremy Chardy. Zverev struggled in the final phase of his game against Nikoloz Basilashvili, but won 6: 4 and 7: 6 (5). Chardy had to go over three sets against Liam Broady.

In the lower half of the tableau there could be a purely Russian semi-final: Daniil Medvedev will play against Pablo Carreno Busta, Karen Khachanov against Ugo Humbert. Medvedev prevailed against Fabio Fognini, Khachanov defeated Diego Schwartzman. The surprise of the day was provided by Frenchman Humbert, who threw Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the tournament in three sets. Carreno Busta was able to prevail against Dominik Koepfer.
