As the newly crowned winner in Eastbourne, Johanna Konta would have served at her home Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon, but nothing came of a start at the lawn classic. Shortly before the start of the tournament, the Briton was classified as close contact with a person who tested positive for the corona virus, which resulted in a ten-day quarantine.

During this time, Konta developed symptoms himself and was also tested positive afterwards. "That's why I haven't been able to train in the past two and a half weeks. Sadly, this has put my body in a situation where it is impossible for it to be completely ready in time for the Tokyo Olympics," the 30-year-old wrote in the social media. She hope to return to the field soon.

Another cancellation by a British player became known on Wednesday evening: Dan Evans also tested positive for the corona virus and, like his compatriot, will not compete in the Olympic Games.

Before Konta, Serena Williams, Simona Halep and Bianca Andreescu and their participation had already canceled the women. In addition to Evans, the men will also miss Roger Federer , Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Stan Wawrinka and Nick Kyrgios.
