Olympia: Boris Becker has great concerns about Tokyo 2020

According to Boris Becker (52), the top tennis players have to put up with "unbelievable exertion" to take part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. This was said by the gold medalist from 1992 on Monday in the margins of the Laureus Awards in Berlin.

"It is somewhat underestimated. It is an incredible effort that tennis players have to put up with in an Olympic year to satisfy everyone," said Becker: "It is difficult." Although no world ranking points were awarded at the tournament in the sign of the rings, the status was "high", Becker confirmed: "Every player likes to play for his country, everyone is a sports fan and likes to be part of the Olympics." In contrast to other sports, the focus is not so clearly on the world event.

Regardless of the cautionary words from Beckers, Rafael Nadal is aiming for a triple blow: The Spaniard has announced that he wants to start with Marc Lopez and mixed with Garbine Muguruza not only in singles, but also in doubles. Alexander Zverev also keeps several options open - such as a joint appearance with Angelique Kerber . The latter won Olympic silver in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Special regulation for Federer?

Roger Federer's appearance is also expected. The Swiss, who won gold in doubles alongside Stan Wawrinka in 2008 and silver in singles four years later in London, does require a special permit from the ITF because he has not competed in the Davis Cup in the past few years. Federer was missing in Rio de Janeiro 2016 due to injury. A big question mark hangs over the man who won the last two Olympic gold medals in men: Andy Murray. After the last injury setbacks, it remains to be seen whether the Scotsman will return to the tennis tour at all.

The games in the Japanese capital take place from July 24th to August 9th, the tennis tournament starts on July 25th and ends on August 2nd. The game will be played in Wimbledon until July 12, and the US Open in New York will start on August 31.
