Olympia: Mona Barthel replaces Angelique Kerber

Mona Barthel will serve for the second time since 2012 at the Olympics. The German Tennis Association nominated the 31-year-old for the games in Tokyo after Angelique Kerber's cancellation.

Angelique Kerber out, Mona Barthel in: One day after the cancellation of the Rio 2016 silver medal winner, the German Tennis Association announced that Barthel will be coming to London for her second Olympic appearance after 2012. Barthel is in the current WTA world rankings at position 153 and has been waiting for a sense of achievement for a long time. The 31-year-old achieved her last match win in qualifying for the French Open.

In addition to Barthel, Laura Siegemund will represent the German colors in Tokyo in singles and Anna-Lena Friedsam with Siegemund in doubles. Whether a mixed doubles will come about will be shown on site.

On the men's side, Alexander Zverev , Jan-Lennard Struff , Dominik Koepfer and Philipp Kohlschreiber take part in the singles. Zverev / Struff and Kevin Krawietz with Tim Pütz were nominated as doubles.
