For Barty it was the second title on clay (after the French Open 2019) and the third comeback victory in a row in Stuttgart: In the quarterfinals, the tournament favorite against Karolina Pliskova had to go over three sets as well as in the semifinals against Elina Svitolina. The Australian could have been eliminated in both matches.
Sabalenka, on the other hand, had come into the final with the recommendation of a smooth success against Simona Halep. And the 22-year-old from Minsk got off to a strong start as usual, leaving Barty no chance in round one. After the 0: 6 in the second round, Sabalenka took a longer medical break and left her opponent waiting in the Porsche Arena. But Barty continued her strong performance, taking Sabalenka's first serve in the decisive set. And was allowed to celebrate as the winner after the 6: 3.
The industry leader's day-to-day work is not over yet: Together with Jennifer Brady, the doubles final is on the agenda.
