The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is picking up speed. Ashleigh Barty joins the tournament, number 1 in the world and a big favorite. She is playing in Stuttgart for the first time and meets the local hero Laura Siegemund right away. The latter celebrated the greatest success of her career in the Porsche Arena in 2017 and had to go over three sets against Mona Barthel at the start of this year's edition on Tuesday.

After her success in doubles at Andrea Petkovic's side, Angelique Kerber's first singles is also on the agenda. Her opponent is the Georgian Ekaterine Gorgodze, who is still in the running as the "lucky loser" of the qualification. A solvable task for the two-time Stuttgart winner.

The match between Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open winner, against Anett Kontaveit is likely to be fiercely contested. Kenin already retired in doubles with Belinda Bencic on Tuesday.

And also the Greek Maria Sakkari, who is getting better and better and has recently beaten numerous top players, will give defending champion Petra Kvitova a tough fight for advancement. The next difficult task after Kvitova had to compete with Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady in round one.
