Porsche Tennis Grand Prix: The 2000s - Davenport and the two Belgians
The 2000s were a time of change. First, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix moved from Filderstadt to Stuttgart in 2006 - in 2009, due to the change in dates, a clay court was opened in spring. With success!

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2020 is unfortunately canceled due to the corona pandemic. In a tennisnet special, we look back with our partner Porsche in exclusive interviews and detailed articles on the most beautiful stories of the past years.
The new millennium at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix started exactly as the old one ended: with a success by Martina Hingis. In 1999, the ingenious Swiss woman didn't give Mary Pierce a chance, a year later Kim Clijsters was no better off. It was to be the fourth and final triumph of Hingis, while Clijsters was able to drive the winning car out of the hall in 2002 and 2003. And she shouldn't be the only Belgian to sign on the list of winners this decade.
Justine Henin failed in 2001 (to Lindsay Davenport) and 2003 (to Clijsters) - still in Filderstadt - in each of the finals, but in 2007 Henin in Stuttgart did so: She beat Tatiana Golovin in three sets. The Frenchwoman, who had never really been able to tap her potential due to almost never ending injury problems, had already failed last year at the premiere in the Porsche Arena in the final of Nadja Petrova from Russia.

Davenport wins three titles
And the Russians in general! Svetlana Kuznetsova also won the title in Stuttgart - in 2009 in the final against Dinara Safina when the sand was first laid in Stuttgart. This tournament was particularly noteworthy in that the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix rose to the ranks of the WTA Premier tournaments. And is still represented in this category to this day.

Record winner in the first decade of 2000 was Lindsay Davenport, who won all of her three titles in the Halle von Filderstadt. No wonder: the fast indoor surface was very responsive to the fast-paced style of play of the former world leaders. The 2005 success against Amelie Mauresmo should remain the last of a player from the USA to date. And a personal milestone for Davenport: namely tournament victory number 50.
