Stan Wawrinka apparently plans to return to the tour with two Challengers

Stan Wawrinka was one of the first to announce his cancellation for the US Open - the second Grand Slam of a unique tennis season. At the time, this information came as little surprise, as the Swiss had previously trained almost exclusively on sand. In addition to Wawrinka, Gael Monfils, Rafael Nadal and Fabio Fognini have now also canceled their appearance.

Fognini in Kitzbühel at the start

While Fognini wants to start at the ATP 250 event in Kitzbühel, Wawrinka is said to be in an even greater hurry to restart the tour. The three-time Grand Slam champion plans to serve at two Challenger events in Prague. These should be from 17-23. August or from 24.-30. August take place. Philipp Kohlschreiber, Jiri Vesely and Pierre-Hughes Herbert will also serve in the Czech capital.

So the chances are also pretty good that the Swiss will add value to a prominent field of participants in Kitzbühel. In addition to Fognini, Diego Schwartzman and Dominic Thiem are also planning a start in Austria - provided, of course, they don't make it into the second week of the US Open. Alexander Antonitsch, tournament director in Kitzbühel, revealed this in the tennisnet podcast.
