Nadal still complains of pain in his feet - a problem that has repeatedly bothered him over the course of his career. After the semi-final at the French Open against Novak Djokovic, Nadal had already canceled Wimbledon and the Olympic Games, but played in Washington last week. Here too, however, he had complained about existing problems on the foot. /

"The most important thing for me is that I enjoy tennis. It's not fun with this pain. And I don't think that I can use it to fight for the things I have to fight for."

He tried it in Washington, as well as here in Toronto. "The people who follow tennis and watch it on TV saw that I suffered, especially in the first match," said Nadal, looking back on his hard-fought win against Jack Sock in Washington. In round 2 he had lost to Lloyd Harris.

He always hopes for improvement, "that's why I came here," said Nadal. But this did not occur, his foot did not allow him to move as he had to.
