Musetti made a lightning start against Novak in difficult conditions: The Italian had two more follow up after the break to make it 1-0, winning the first set 6-0 after 21 minutes of play. Incidentally, exactly two years after Musetti posted his first points for the ATP world rankings. At the beginning, the teenager mainly massaged the forehand of Novak, who couldn't cope with the gusty wind and heavy spin of his opponent.
Round two started again with a break - and that after Novak had made up a 0:40. The Austrian then missed a chance on the rebreak, had to give up his serve to 0: 3 to zero. After a little more than three quarters of an hour of play, Novak raised his arms, not without irony: he had finally won his first game.
Musetti now against Evans
But there was nothing left for the father-to-be to get. After 52 minutes of play, Novak survived: 6: 0, 6: 1 for the local hero. In the second round, Musetti meets tournament favorite Daniel Evans. The Briton enjoyed a bye on lap one.
Carlos Alcaraz also showed a strong performance in the parallel tournament in Marbella. The 17-year-old Spaniard won against qualifiers Nikola Milojevic 7: 6 (3) and 6: 3 and is now waiting for the winner of the match between Feliciano Lopez and Taro Daniel.
