Mr. von Frankenberg, what are the advantages of hosting an ITF tournament in a holiday club?
Compared to conventional tournaments, the ROBINSON Clubs have the great advantage that we already have the entire infrastructure that a tennis event requires on site. Starting with the sports facilities, the fitness studio, the sauna, the physiotherapy and of course various restaurants. Players have the advantage of not needing any transfers from their accommodation to the facility. Restaurants do not have to be approached either.
Almost everything takes place within the system?
Exactly - the player can concentrate 100 percent on his tournament under the most professional conditions. On the other hand, an event is of course also an image gain for the hotel, which can be used accordingly in the media and on social media. As the organizer of the Grand Slam tournaments in Australia, Paris, London and New York, the ITF practically represents the gold standard in the world of tennis. The cooperation between two premium products such as the ROBINSON Clubs and the ITF is ideal.
How does the planning for such a tournament look like in general: What are the big steps - and also the small ones that hardly anyone notices?
First of all, the organizer has to sign a corresponding contract with the hotel. Once the organizers and the hotel management have agreed on the framework conditions, the national tennis association must be brought on board. Different license fees apply depending on the country. If this step is successful, the ITF then makes the final decision as to whether the tournament will be included in the ITF calendar.
And then?
As soon as the tournament is on the calendar, the corresponding marketing measures begin and the tournament is planned from the ground up: selection of the referees, the transfer, the drivers and helpers, the procurement of the material, but also the branding and the development of the supporting program.
The ITF tournaments in the ROBINSON Clubs are so-called Masters, i.e. designed for players aged 30 and over. The tournament weeks are therefore called "World Tennis Masters Tour". What was your personal highlight at the last ITF tournament in early March in ROBINSON KHAO LAK ?
The highlight of the ITF in KHAO LAK, apart from the paradisiacal ambience, was the internationality of the participants. 20 different nations took part. ROBINSON thus contributes to international understanding.
Is it true that many guests follow you?
It's actually true that we have players who are present at every event. Whether in Turkey or Thailand - the combination of an ITF tournament and ROBINSON is just perfect!
What else happens during the week apart from tennis and tournaments?
Player's party, players' dinner, welcome cocktail... In addition, every evening I sit down with the inner circle of players at dinner. We also take part in tastings such as whiskey tastings. The player's parties are always big highlights! I come up with crazy ideas for it and we have a lot of fun. I think we organize the best gamer parties in the world. They're just hard to top. By the way, most of the players are now networked with each other, have exchanged numbers and arrange to meet for the tournament weeks in advance!
