Farewell to Roger Federer - The stage could not have been bigger

It all started with the announcement of his resignation - a letter that Federer, as he said, reworded umpteen times. And at the end read to his fans...

Federer expressed early on the desire to play a farewell doubles match with Rafael Nadal, even if it was not yet clear whether the knee would participate... Legendary in advance: a training session for the "Big Four" that gave hope!

And finally: the confirmation that the "Fedal" double would actually happen! On the way to the final training, the two were already in a great mood. He himself would only train loosely for 15, 20 minutes, Federer explained, and then Nadal would continue to hit forehands over the net as usual!

A moving little scene just before the match: Federer and long-term coach Severin Lüthi – how much heart there is in this embrace!

The double itself was surprisingly good, Federer really good in the game from round two. "Fedal" even came to a match point. In the end, however, Sock and Tiafoe triumphed. But that didn't really matter tonight!

And of course they had Jim Courier flown in - he's the best man for on-court interviews. And it got emotional again...

Ellie Goulding's performance gave Federer the rest.

Federer's family was also moved to tears, but Roger assured his daughters: All right, they are tears of joy!

And then it got even happier: Federer was carried across the pitch, on the initiative of Novak Djokovic!

Ella Ling shot the most famous photo of the evening: Federer and Nadal holding hands.

But it was all just a brief moment. Or as Federer said afterwards: a kind of secret thank you that Rafa came to London especially for him.
