Dominic Thiem played an entertaining match with Andrey Rublev

Sold out house in Kitzbühel - that means under the given circumstances 500 paying visitors plus those guests who came to the Kitzbühel stadium with the players. In the case of Dominic Thiem that was also manager Herbert Straka, the family is always there anyway. And the audience got to see what was probably the best match of the invitation tournament so far, with a wonderfully laid-out host. And Andrey Rublev, who went full throttle with every stroke as usual. In the end, Thiem won 7: 5 and 6: 4 and already booked his place in the semi-finals on Friday.

The match started optimally from Thiem's point of view, he took Rublev's first service game straight away. the Russian countered with the rebreak to 2-2, then it went with the serve until Rublev wobbled again in the eleventh game. Thiem served confidently. In the second round it was the seventh game in which Thiem got the break, Rublev then made no comeback.

Thiem against Struff on Thursday

The match has a different characteristic than the opening game between Thiem and Casper Ruud: Andrey Rublev plays the balls much flatter and faster over the net, but is weaker on the defensive than the Norwegian. But in the end it didn't make a difference: Dominic Thiem was extremely lively and enthusiastic about playing in various show fights, as was the case with his other appearances, and also gave his second opponent no real chance of winning the match. Ruud had at least led 4: 1 in the second set.

Thiem is already 4: 0 sets in the semi-finals, meeting Jan-Lennard Struff in the third match after 1 p.m. on Thursday. In the parallel group, Dennis Novak and Roberto Bautista Agut have a real final for a semi-final, Matteo Berrettini already has it.
