Casper Ruud will be absent from Rome

With his semi-final at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid, Casper Ruud has continued an impressive series. The Norwegian played his way into his third clay court Masters semifinals in a row, but the 22-year-old was denied a place in the final.

So also in Madrid. On Saturday evening, the Norwegian had to watch without a chance as his opponent Berrettini played in his first Masters final. Berrettini will meet the German Alexander Zverev on Sunday evening ( in the live ticker on tennisnet.com!) .

Ruud in the semifinals last year

Last year Ruud had reached his first semifinals at Masters level in Rome and failed in two contested sets against the eventual winner Djokovic. The Serb will also be the hunted in 2021, going into the race as number one. Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem complete the top four on the seeding list.

The reason for the cancellation of this year's edition should be physical problems paired with the upcoming French Open at Casper Ruud. In his semi-final duel with Matteo Berrettini, Ruud did not look completely fit - and as a clay court specialist, the French Open should of course be the declared goal of the season for the young Norwegian.

Meanwhile, the main draw from the Rome ATP event is already in full swing. The Canadian youngster Felix Auger-Aliassime has already won his first round match, who had a hard time against Filip Krajinovic, but then made it clear in three sets to make it into round two.
