US Open 2022: Jabeur in round three, Sakkari fails
While last year's semi-finalist Maria Sakkari was eliminated in round two of the US Open 2022, Ons Jabeur, at least one of the favorites in the lower half of the tableau, made it into the third round.

Sakkari opens the action at Louis Armstrong Stadium and struggled from the start with Xinyu Wang. The Chinese left-hander dictated from the baseline with her forehand - only Wang's serve didn't really work. But that went away as the match progressed. And so the outsider moved into the third round of the US Open 2022 with a 3: 6, 7: 5 and 7: 5.
There is also Ons Jabeur. The Tunisian, who was last defeated by Elena Rybakina in the Wimbledon final, defeated the American Elizabeth Mandlik 7: 5 and 6: 2. There Jabeur plays against Shelby Rogers - and thus against the next local hero. Last year Rogers defeated the now retired Ashleigh Barty, then number one in the world.
