"I was in the call. There can be no talk of a threatened strike," said the Vice President of the German Tennis Association (DTB) to SID on Friday.

After a video conference by the player organization ATP, the organizers of the US Open and professionals on Thursday, the Spanish newspaper Marca reported that the group led by top star Novak Djokovic insisted on a guarantee that after the tournament in New York they would travel to Europe without any problems to continue the tour can. Otherwise it is not clear that the best players would travel to the USA.

"Of course the players want to return from the USA without quarantine," said Hordorff: "Everything was settled until the tournament in Madrid was canceled. With Kitzbühel there is probably a solution, now we have to see how it is with Rome. That is on the to-do list. " After the US Open (from August 31st) there are tournaments in both Austria and Italy, which also serve to prepare for the French Open (from September 27th).

Meanwhile, Hordorff showed understanding for the information policy of the organizers, which some professionals had criticized. "We are in an ongoing pandemic with constantly changing situations," he said: "You have to have the flexibility right now, even if that's not pleasant. Because that means late decisions."

However, Hordorff expects that the world number one Djokovic will ultimately serve in New York. Other prominent professionals like 19-time major winner Rafael Nadal and number one in women Ashleigh Barty have already canceled. Elina Svitolina, Kiki Bertens, Nick Kyrgios and Gael Monfils also announced their waiver. Further cancellations are to be expected.
