Will you soon see Jürgen Melzer in doubles with Dominic Thiem?

Jürgen Melzer's active career is not completely over. The German-Wagramer, who has held the position of ÖTV sports director since this year, will be doing some Grand Slam tournaments this year. Paris is already fixed (here double Melzer with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi) , also starts in Wimledon (with Philipp Petzschner), the US Open and even the Olympics are in the room. And the 39-year-old also seems anything but averse to the Davis Cup.

Especially at the Olympic Games, however, there could be an extremely exciting pairing, as Melzer explained at a press conference of the Austrian Olympic Committee: There could be an Austrian star double with Dominic Thiem. "I asked him if he would like to play with me if there was a chance. Then came a clear yes."

Thiem: "Why shouldn't we make a medal there?"

A joint appearance could not only be explosive due to the special constellation, it could also be associated with success, as Thiem immediately recognized. The world number four is said to have immediately asked Melzer: "Why shouldn't we win a medal there?"

The big question mark over Jürgen Melzer's appearances, however, represents at best the enthusiasm of the other Austrian doubles specialists. Because in his role as ÖTV official, the German-Wagramer was not averse to any commitment, but at the same time Melzer emphasized "as a sports director to look at the others and not wanting to take a seat away from anyone ".
