After the five-set battle in round one against HalleWestfalen winner Ugo Humbert, Nick Kyrgios had a little easier game in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon. The 26-year-old prevailed on the holy London lawn after 1:51 hours of play against the Italian Gianluca Mager 7: 6 (7), 6: 4, 6: 4. The Canberra man has already exceeded his last Wimbledon result - 2019 had already ended in round two against Rafael Nadal in four tight sets.

Set one was hard fought between the two opponents. Both players impressed with their own service - the logical consequence was a tiebreak, which only narrowly went to the favorites from "down under" with a score of 9: 7. In rounds two and three, Kyrgios was given a break to finish the match positively. During the world ranking 60. completed a successful return game to lead 3-1 in set two, Mager had to give up his service in act three to 2: 3 deficit.

In the round of the last 32 players, the polarizing showman has to deal with either the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime or the Swede Mikael Ymer. The 16-ranked Monegasse by choice leads against Kyrgios in direct duels 1-0. Auger-Aliassime was also successful on grass in three close sets at London's Queen's Club in 2019. If, on the other hand, there should be a duel with the 22-year-old from Stockholm, Kyrgios would be the clear favorite, at least on paper.
