After, as already reported, both Belinda Bencic and Alizé Cornet had advanced into the round of the last four at the WTA lawn tournament in Berlin after hard-fought three-set games, the Russian Liudmilla Samsonova also made it very exciting. The lady from Northwest Russia, who was only listed on position 106 in the world rankings, defeated the American Madison Keys (WTA 28) after 2:24 hours, also just under 7: 6 (4), 2: 6 and 7: 6 (0). Samsonova was still in action last week and lost in the round of 16 of the WTA 125 event in Bol, Croatia, 3: 6, 4: 6 against the Austrian number one, Barbara Haas.

And so that the spectators, who were allowed to flock to the facility in double the number on the days before, could actually watch the exciting tennis until the end, Victoria Azarenka also made it much more exciting than she should have. Already comfortably leading in the second set, the Belarusian let her opponent Jessica Pegula come up again and had to go into extra time. In the end, however, the greater experience of the native Eastern European prevailed - 6: 2, 5: 7 and 6: 4 after 1:49 hours of play.

Tomorrow at the WTA 500 event, the semi-finals between Belinda Bencic and Alizé Cornet (in head-to-head the Confederation leads 2-1) as well as Liudmilla Samsonova and Victoria Azarenka are on the program. The second match pairing is a first.
