Opening success for Jule Niemeier at the WTA 250 tournament in Lyon: The German prevailed against Olga Danilovic 7: 5, 2: 6 and 6: 3 on Monday. In the round of 16, she surprisingly faces Camila Osorio.
Osora defeated third-placed Alize Cornet 6-4, 4-6, and 6-1 in round one. With Garbine Muguruza, a two-time Grand Slam winner has already had to say goodbye. The Spaniard lost to Linda Noskova 1: 6 and 4: 6.
Meanwhile, the top seeded player in Lyon is Caroline Garcia, fifth in the world rankings. She faces Tereza Martincova on Tuesday. Should Garcia prevail, she could meet Tamara Korpatsch in the round of 16. For her part, the German opens on Wednesday against Alison Van Uytvanck.
