Anett Kontaveit can win her third title in Moscow in 2021

Anett Kontaveit has already won two tournaments this year, in Cleveland and recently in Ostrava, with a triumph in Moscow the 25-year-old could celebrate her biggest championship to date. Kontaveit prevailed 6: 3 and 6: 4 against Marketa Vondrousova in the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup 2021. And will play against local hero Ekaterina Alexandrova in the final on Sunday. Their opponent Maria Sakkari had to give up when the score was 1: 4 in the first set.

Which, from the Greek's point of view, is a shame with regard to the WTA finals in Guadalajara: Sakkari is in sixth position in the Porsche Race (and Ashleigh Barty, who is first in the world rankings cannot be expected in Mexico), a few points to safeguard downwards would not have hurt.

Anett Kontaveit, meanwhile, is in the position of the huntress. With the possible 500 points from Moscow on Sunday, she would come to almost 3,000 if Naomi Osaka would displace tenth place. But that's not enough for one of the seats at the meat pot. Unless two players placed in front of her cancel. The problem for Kontaveit and all other players who still have silent final ambitions: There are hardly any opportunities to collect additional points. Next week either in Courmayeur or in Cluj, then in Linz - that's it.
