WTA: This is what the "normal" ranking would look like
The special regulation with regard to the world rankings is not only causing more and more resentment among men. For women, the current number one, Ashleigh Barty , wouldn't even be in the top ten.

Most recently, it was Alexander Zverev who clearly expressed his displeasure with the current compilation of the points for the ATP world rankings in Acapulco. He appreciates Roger Federer above all else, but it cannot be that the Swiss still occupies a better place in the charts than himself, according to Zverev. After all, the Swiss did not contest a tournament for more than a year, but Zverev himself reached the final of a Grand Slam event and an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
The situation for women is at least as unsatisfactory. Ashleigh Barty continues to lead the rankings there. Based in large part on points scored in Miami and the French Open in 2019. Naomi Osaka, on the other hand, who won two majors in a row with the US Open and the Australian Open, is only in second place.
When comparing the current with the "normal" world rankings - that is, the one that only includes the results of the last twelve months, the Australian Barty is not even among the top ten players.
Current | Points | normal | Points |
Ashleigh Barty | 9,186 | Naomi Osaka | 4,770 |
Naomi Osaka | 7,835 | Victoria Azarenka | 3,061 |
Simona Halep | 7,255 | Iga Swiatek | 3,002 |
Sofia Kenin | 5,760 | Jennifer Brady | 2,743 |
Elina Svitolina | 5,370 | Elise Mertens | 2,621 |
Karolina Pliskova | 5,205 | Garbine Muguruza | 2,355 |
Serena Williams | 4,915 | Aryna Sabalenka | 2,097 |
Aryna Sabalenka | 4,815 | Serena Williams | 1,980 |
Bianca Andreescu | 4,735 | Simona Halep | 1,950 |
Petra Kvitova | 4,571 | Sofia Kenin | 1,813 |
The point discrepancy results from the fact that the WTA tour was very sparsely populated after the Corona break compared to the men - especially after the French Open. While Djokovic, Nadal, and Co. played an almost full schedule, including the ATP Finals in London, there were only two ways for women to collect points after the French Open: in Ostrava and Linz. The 2020 season finale, which was supposed to take place in Shenzhen, was canceled without replacement.
