With her second tournament victory on the WTA tour in Adelaide, Iga Swiatek not only confirmed her sensational success in Adelaide last autumn, but also reached a new career high in the WTA world rankings. With the final victory over Belinda Bencic, the Polish improved three positions from 18th to 15th.

Ashleigh Barty (defending champion in Adelaide was eliminated in the first match against Danielle Collins) ahead of Australian Open winner Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep (both not at the start in Adelaide).

Cori Gauff, who only failed to qualify in Adelaide in the semi-finals to Bencic, has also improved. Gauff, who will celebrate her 17th birthday in a few days, moved up from position 52 to 38. And after Shelby Rogers also made it back to the top 50 players in the world, there are currently eleven representatives from the USA. This was last the case in autumn 2003.

The best German player is still Angelique Kerber in 26th place. Kerber competes in Doha this week.
