Ajla Tomljanovic in Wimbledon: Her mum is finally watching, but her dad just doesn't book through

When Ajla Tomljanovic converted the match point against Alizé Cornet, she couldn't quite believe it herself: was the ball now on the line? Had she touched the web at the end? And anyway: She had felt the whole time that she was still so far away from victory against Cornet, the old fighter!

The Australian was correspondingly emotional during the on-court interview. Above all, she was publicly happy that her mother was actually there, in the audience. Because last year, when Tomljanovic reached the round of eight in a major tournament for the first time, that was not the case - Mama Tomljanovic stayed in Florida at the time. And I didn't even watch the matches, probably out of nervousness.

She herself was a little angry about it. "What if I never make it again," said Tomljanovic, "then you missed it. But now, please, mum, here we are."

Hotel problems in the Tomljanovic house

But Tomljanovic has another "problem" with her parents. Papa Tomljanovic is responsible for the hotel bookings - and robs his daughter of the last nerve. She had already had to leave her place on Friday because her dad had only reserved until then. "Did you think I would lose in the second round?" she asked him. He could have booked at least until the first Sunday. It was difficult to find new accommodation, "London is full," explained Tomljanovic, but now she is staying in a small hotel near the facility.

After her third round victory, he told her again that he had to extend, "you're not serious," she said, but he did it. And reserved until Tuesday. And after beating Cornet, of course, the same problem arose. Now he has extended until Thursday.

Why not directly by Sunday? "It's probably a kind of reverse psychology for him," Tomljanovic suspects.

You yourself have now halfway given up the discussions. She's not moving out of this hotel, she made it clear to him that he should do what has to be done. "Even if I have to share my room with a stranger."
