It was almost exactly a year ago that Andy Murray spoke in the run-up to the Australian Open about a possible resignation due to persistent hip problems. The 32-year-old had to undergo surgery after the event in Melbourne, but came back on tour unexpectedly and even won a tournament in Antwerp.

Eleven months after the highly emotional press conference in Australia, Murray is now struggling with injury issues again. The bar of the former world number one tweaks and complicates preparation for the coming season.

Murray five-time finalist in Melbourne

As three media reports , the three-time Grand Slam winner had to interrupt his training block in Miami because the pain in the groin was too great. Murray was originally supposed to train in Florida for two weeks to prepare for the coming season.

The groin problems had plagued Murray at the Davis Cup in Madrid and prevented appearances in the late stages of the tournament. In the Spanish capital, the Briton had not yet classified the problems as tragic.

The injury now seems to be worse than initially thought. Whether Murray is even in danger of the Australian Open is unclear. For the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the world ranking would be 126. in all likelihood need a wildcard - but as a five-time finalist, this shouldn't be a problem.
