The reason for this is said to be the unsatisfactory performance at the Australian Open, where the Scot surprisingly failed in round 2 in 3 sets against Taro Daniel from Japan. Murray only split from long-time coach Jamie Delgado in December, with whom he has worked since November 2017. So the search for the perfect coach for Murray's final years on the Tour continues. The double Olympic champion said in December that he wanted to take his time and not rush things, so the test with de Witt will probably not be the last test run. According to Tim Henman, himself a former world number four and also an Englishman, the priorities for the 2022 season should be on the grass season anyway. Because there, according to Henman, Andy Murray, with the support of the spectators, could probably continue the performance of the past few days, even if he noted that some appearances in autumn, especially the one at the US Open against Tsitsipas, were already at a remarkable level was.

Murray and the coaches

Sir Andrew Barron Murray has worked with quite a few coaches in his career, Mark Petchey, Brad Gilbert, Ivan Lendl, Alex Corretja and Amelie Mauresmo being the most well known on this list. Under Ivan Lendl, the Scot celebrated his greatest successes, won 2 Olympic gold and 3 Grand Slam titles, including 2 times in Wimbledon. In 2016, after winning the ATP Finals in London, he ended the season as number 1 in the world rankings.

What's next?

How things will go for Jan de Witt, who has already coached top players like Monfils, Simon and Basilashvili, has not yet been found out. Let's be surprised if Murray and de Witt's paths might cross again a few times in the future.
