Andy Murray dares to do a lot at Wimbledon

It's been almost eight years since Andy Murray won the Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon for the first time. With this success, the Scot ended the 77-year curse that had lasted for the British players since Fred Perry's victory in 1936.

In 2016, Murray was again the "Last Man Standing" in south-west London, but since then it has not worked for the former world number one due to physical problems, but not with a triumph at the lawn classic. That should change this year, explained Murray, who is now playing with an artificial hip, to Prime Video .

Murray looking for match practice

"I want to be on the court at Wimbledon and feel like I can win the tournament. I know it will be extremely difficult, but I really believe it is possible," said Murray. For this he would need a lot of match practice in the coming weeks and months, the Scot thinks.

"I know I can still play at the highest level," continued Murray. The preparation for the season, in which he felt very comfortable on the tennis court according to his own statements, showed him that. After that, however, a corona infection intervened. For this reason, the two-time Olympic champion had to cancel his participation in the Australian Open.

That was a bitter moment for him because he felt ready for a "good run". "I believed in it, visualized it and so on - that was not the case the year before," explained Murray, who did not lower his own claims at the biggest tournaments in the world despite the hip problems.

"My expectation is that I will do well in these events. To win them is probably a little ambitious right now, but I feel that I can keep up with the top players," said Murray. "I'm sure some people will think that I'm delusional and that my best days are behind me - that may be the case. I still think I can play with the best players in the biggest tournaments," said the Briton. The next opportunity to prove this will be the world number 119. at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami. There he meets the South African Lloyd Harris in the first round .
