After exactly three hours of play, Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios switched sides again: 6: 6 at the time, the tournament favorite had just been unable to use three match balls. The Spaniards in particular had to hurt until then: First of all, a backhand volley stop by Kyrgios just fell into the field with the net, at 6: 5 Nadal put a pass stroke by a millimeter. Then, however, the Spaniard showed nerves - and served a double fault. Kyrgios had to go over the second serve, but was allowed to celebrate his biggest victory in the recent past after a mistake by Nadal. With 3: 6, 7: 6 (2) and 7: 6 (6). Kyrgios has thus been able to maintain his perfect series in tie breaks against Nadal.

Not to the delight of the public, who had been in the Mallorcan camp with a very large majority. Nadal, who could only use one of ten chances to break, showed why after his defeat: despite the disappointing outcome of the match, he took the time to sign autographs for the fans. Kyrgios now meets Stan Wawrinka, who defeated Steve Johnson in two sets.

Peter Gojowczyk has left. The Dachauer lost to John Millman 0: 6 and 2: 6.
