Alexander Zverev has not yet been able to celebrate a tournament win this year, but the results collected for 2022 see the Olympic champion among the top eight players of the season after reaching the final in Madrid. As of now, that would give Zverev the right to start in the ATP Finals in Turin, which he is known to have won in autumn 2021. Zverev is exactly eighth in the race, with a decent cushion of almost 400 points on Casper Ruud.

There is a head-to-head race between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz for the top two ranks. The latter has moved up to 70 points on his compatriot with the triumph in Madrid, but Nadal still holds the top position. After the 1000 in Rome, the account will be recalculated.

According to the current reading, Stefanos Tsitsipas , Andrey Rublev , Daniil Medvedev , Félix Auger-Aliassime and Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz would round off the field of eight in addition to Nadal, Alcaraz and Zverev. The one who is most conspicuously missing is Novak Djokovic . The Serb has only been able to collect 620 points this year and is 28th in the race.

Changing of the guard in Austria - Rodionov overtakes Thiem

In the regular world rankings, however, Djokovic is ahead by a nose, with a lead of 270 points over Medvedev. Zverev follows in third with not so bad prospects of climbing the top position soon: Because in Paris Novak Djokovic will have 2,000 points to defend.

By the way, Carlos Alcaraz made up three places with his Madrid victory and is now sixth. David Goffin (to 48th place) and Lorenzo Musetti (from 63 to 51) also jumped twelve positions each. Dusan Lajovic even made up 13 places with his run in Madrid.

There was a changing of the guard in Austrian tennis: Dominic Thiem is no longer the best-ranked player. Thiem is currently only in 162nd place. The new red-white-red leader is Jurij Rodionov . The left-hander won the ATP Challenger tournament in Mauthausen, making up 27 places and setting a new career high with 130th place.
